In 2009 YES Nigeria held small planning meetings to identify initiatives, partners, funders and stakeholders for the Rework the World project culmination in the 5th Global YES Summit. Potential partners where identified and research for potential rework projects of green initiatives started. To increase chances of attracting funding and partners, YES Nigeria Rework project focuses on Land (also renewable energy) thus aligning with one of Nigeria’s post Copenhagen Climate Summit primary positions; aforestation. One project, The Farmers Guide Initiative, a self supporting organic farming scheme was disseminated online during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November 2009 for feedback and publicity.
The Rework workshop held on the 15th of February 2010 at the Hilton Abuja, with representatives of the Ministry of Youth Development, Ministry of Environment (Special Climate Change Unit), News Agency of Nigeria, Coalitions 4 Change (DFID), ICEED, JCI, youth and YES members with presentations by two potential Rework the World Nigeria innovators, Mr Okoi Ononwen, the coordinator Farmers Guide Initiative (FGI) and Mr. Emeka, SFK Coconut Nigeria Limited. Barriers to scale and gaps were identified to strengthen project design and narrow selection criteria for new projects. Participants agreed to identify 5 more projects in their networks for screening within the next 2 weeks. A green jobs fair is also in planning.
On the 16th of February 2010 YES Nigeria was appointed to the Green Jobs Terms of Reference drafting committee at the Ministry of Environment Post COP15 meeting in Abuja.
